Bamboo Airways is permitted to fly directly to the US

Bamboo Airways is licensed to carry out passengers and cargo from HCMC to Sanfrancisco International Airport. The wide-body aircraft Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will take this duty.

Bamboo Airways has acquired slots to operate regular direct flights from HCMC to San Francisco and Los Angeles starting September 1.

Currently, there are no non-stop routes between the two countries but passengers have to take more time, about 18-21 hours to transit through some Asian countries like South Korea or Taiwan.  Direct flights will benefit them in shorting the number of hours taken on the board.

According to vnexpress, Americans are among the top foreign visitors to Vietnam, with 687,226 arrivals last year, while an ethnic Vietnamese population of over 2.1 million in the U.S. is also expected to be a steady source of travel demand.

Before that, the national carrier Vietnam Airlines got permission for American aviation authorities. In September 2019, Vietnam Airlines got the green light to operate direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to several American destinations.

Bamboo Airways is now making progress to build its personnel apparatus, including training crews and its fleet to prepare for direct flights to the U.S that can expect to be operated in July.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport is also finalizing procedures to designate Bamboo Airways to operate charter flights between Vietnam and the U.S. following a proposal made by the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam at the end of April.

The carrier also plans to operate direct flights to South Korea, Taiwan and Japan in the second quarter of this year if it’s approved by the Government.

Vietnam’s national borders have been closed since March last year due to the pandemic outbreak.
